Chardonnay Food Matching

Clare Anderson - Friday, March 18, 2016

Chardonnay has made a real comeback recently, which is a wonderful to see as Chardonnay is such a complex wine and can be enjoyed with a range of foods. Understanding where the Chardonnay is from, weather it is oaked and how mature it is when you drink it is important to which food you pair it with. Anderson Hill Chardonnays are cool climate, stored in oak for twelve months and as it ages develops different more complex flavours.

A younger cool climate chardonnay such as Anderson Hill "Lila Agars" pairs well with shellfish such as crab and prawns, especially our famous prawn pizza, delicate chicken terrines, creamy pastas, risottos and fresh spring vegetables.

An aged Chardonnay such as Anderson Hill "Elizabeth Scott" pair well slightly richer foods like veal with mushroom sauce, pumpkin ravioli, hazelnut crusted chicken with fennel and of course a local Udder Delights Cheddar.

Harvest 2016

Clare Anderson - Thursday, March 03, 2016
February! WOW!
This is the earliest harvest we have ever seen at Anderson Hill. 2015 was middle of March and we thought that was early.
Extremely warm weather early in the summer pushed the fruit into early ripeness. The flavours are great and we are optimistic that the 2016 vintage will be a good one.
We hand-picked most of the fruit this year - taking about six days to complete picking, using 25-40 pickers each day.
This kept Ben very busy on the tractor collecting full bins of fruit and circling around the vineyard to drop off bins ready to be loaded onto the semi at the end of the day.Our grapes first headed to the cool room to chill right through before heading to the winery to be crushed. The machine harvester came in briefly for one night before moving to a nearby block.Living with each other during harvest is like walking on glass ( broken glass) !! Coordinating trucks, pickers, wineries, delivery times, bookings, trucks, pickers, trucks, tractors, pickers, forklifts, etc., etc. etc. is very stressful and it all must run like clockwork. Finally harvest 2016 is complete and we can breathe again..... now it's time to catch up on all the other jobs!!
